LINCOLN CONTINENTAL |
|
|
The Lincoln name has always represented the best in quality and style and the Continental model is no exception. The first post war appearance of the Continental was at the 1954 Motor Shows, in readiness for the 1955 Season. The car which essentially then as now, is a Lincoln Engineered vehicle, but using all assemblies and equipment of Ford origin. The Continental in Mk 1 form, was propelled by a Ford V8 of just over 6 litres and providing some 288 BHP. The UK cost in 1955 was £6500 which included £1890.14.3 of British Purchase Tax. This vehicle was purchased new in 1975. The car spent the early part of its life in the States of Texas and Louisiana USA. It was taken to Manitoba Canada by a previous owner in 1983 and re registered as 345 DSH. In 1985 the car was shipped to the United Kingdom and came to Calne. It was acquired by this collection in 1990 as a non runner. After some servicing work and minor repairs to the engine electric's and internal trim, the car has been quite successful as a wedding car and features on one of the Museum Video Films, actually out on a Wedding appointment. The present registration was carried out, since the car joined this collection.
